The erythrocytes in these cases were abnormally suseeptil)le to hemolysis by chilling and by addition of acid! in the presence of the patients’ as well as control sera. Erythrocytes from control subjects, in contrast, \V(9P not hemolvzed under identical t reat ment . The abnormality, then , resi(led in the red i)lood cells of the patients, although a factor present in the serum of the patients as vell as of normal persons ‘as necessary for the hemolysis.
